I’m David. I am a father who is passionate about seeking out creative ways to teach his kids the important things of life.

I worked as an engineer and a teacher for many years, and now work full-time as an entrepreneur. I am married to the most amazing woman in the world and have two incredible kids. I consider myself to be extremely fortunate. My wife and I share an itch for adventure and a love of fun that we hope will run in the family.

Our Story

While dating long-distance, I flew up to visit her often and got to know two nieces (then only 2 yrs old). We made it a point to take them out to do fun things and also introduced them to some games.

Hanging out made us closer, but playing games opened up many teachable moments. While playing Mexican Train ** (a game with dominoes), we were able to teach about not being afraid of losing (or failing) and why rules were part of what made games fun. While playing St. Petersburg ** (Monopoly™ on steroids), we were able to show the importance of math to winning. One summer later, our “academically slow” niece proved to be quite sharp with numbers and complex strategies once motivated to learn.

Seeing how fun opens up opportunities for teaching important lessons made us begin thinking intentionally about how fun can actually help us in raising great kids.

So Why the Raising Kids on Fun blog?

Raising kids can be one of the most rewarding and challenging things you do in life.  Between cleaning up poo, getting the diaper bag ready, dealing with screaming and defiant toddlers, trying to get your baby to sleep, keeping food mostly in a baby’s mouth and the rest of your life’s demands, there is often little time to think about how to creatively impart the values that you hold dear.

In this blog, I want to share my experiences so that you can learn from my successes and failures. Raising Kids on Fun is a place where you can find a community who cares about teaching the important things of life in a way that memorably engages their child in FUN!!  We believe that many lessons are learned through discipline, failures and great challenges; but we also believe that creative parents can create numerous opportunities to teach life lessons in a way that is fun and meaningful for everyone. For the seasoned parents/educators, I hope that they will share their wisdom and will also find my experiences helpful as they shape young kids in their care. For the new parents, my hope is that they get inspired to think about taking care of more than just physical needs and academic learning but shaping a child’s character.

Raising kids well requires a lot of hard work, a lot of patience and a lot of grace. At the end of the day, we may do everything right and our kids may not turn out exactly as we want; but there are many things we can do to give them a better chance of heading the right direction.

I speak from my experiences and share them freely because I believe that they will be helpful to some. Thanks for reading this, and I hope to see you on my blog.
